Sam to Dean - "Easier than leading."

Dean to Toni (holding the grenade launcher) - "Yep. Big, beautiful, and dumb."
  • Dean to Mary - "I hate you. I hate you...and I love you, 'cause I can't help it. You're my mom."
  • Mary to Jody - "Aww...you wanna play mother to my son. He's all yours."

  • When the BMOLs are gathering weapons at their compound, we see the pearl-handled handguns that Dean and Sam often carry mounted on the wall. The weapons were apparently taken from the Winchesters. Did Jody and Sam take those weapons back before they blew up the BMOLs' base? Also, the BMOLs have a large amount of information (monster lore, files, etc.) and unique weapons at the base that could be helpful to the American hunters in the future. Did Sam and Jody take any of those items before destroying the base?
  • With the BMOLs all dead (at least the ones in America), can Dean and Sam stop Lucifer and the Nephilim without help from the Brits? Can they save Castiel and Kelly before Lucifer finds them?
  • What happened to the photograph Mr. Ketch stole from Dean's room? Will Dean eventually notice it missing? Will he ever see it again? Now that he's come to terms with who Mary is, will he care if he never sees the picture again?
  • There are presumably still a large number of BMOLs in England and elsewhere. Since the American hunters have killed so many BMOLs and destroyed their temporary base, will execution orders be issued for the surviving American hunters?
  • Claire wasn't mentioned in this episode, but she was on the BMOL's hit list. Did the Winchesters stop the BMOLs in time to save her?
  • If Mary survives, will she get another chance to make things right with Dean and Sam?

  • If Toni Bevel was telling the truth, her loyalty to the BMOLs was erased when Mr. Ketch left her to die.
  • Dean has apparently never had the chance to use the grenade launcher before.
  • Sam feels guilty for believing the BMOLs and being deceived by them; he likely also feels guilty for bringing Dean into the organization.
  • Dean has apparently blamed himself for not being able to protect Sam from the terrible things that happened to him (not such a revelation for the audience); but it seems that deep down, he has known all along that those terrible events were Mary's fault and what happened to him and Sam wasn't fair.
  • Mary says that she stayed away from Dean and Sam because being with them was too hard. She was also afraid that Sam wouldn't forgive her.
  • Although Mary says she regrets distancing.herself from Dean and Sam after her return, she never apologizes to Dean or Sam for what she did when they were children. And she never apologized (technically) for how she has treated them since her return.
  • Sam admitted that following the BMOLs was easier than leading, but in earlier seasons he seemed to resent Dean (and John) leading him and telling him what to do. He also once said that part of the reason he went with Ruby and drank demon blood was that being in that position made him feel strong and in control.
  • If the BMOLs' had completed their plan, any family members of the American hunters would have been killed, as well as any bystanders or witnesses to the murders.
  • In the season 11 finale, Amara told Dean that she'd give him what he needed most. It's possible that what Dean truly needed was to begin healing the psychological damage that occurred when he was a child. This meant confronting Mary about her failures and tell her how her actions harmed him and Sam. Confronting his mother about that may help Dean feel less guilty about what happened to Sam, allow him to move on from his idealistic misconceptions about his mother, and finally experience the closure he's been denied all his life.
  • Not only did Dean and Sam get some closure with Mary, but they encountered Roy and Walt (the hunters who killed them in season 5 "Dark Side of the Moon") and had a chance to forgive another wrong done to them. Roy and Walt also showed some character development by agreeing to take orders from Sam, whom they once believed to be a monster.
  • The American hunters didn't seem to have any problem breaking into the BMOLs' base and killing them, despite the fact that the BMOLs were wearing bullet-proof vests and using automatic weapons. Then again, the vampires didn't have a problem breaching the base's security either, so there's that...

  • After Mary killed Lester, the next three hunters on her list were Fred Macrae (from Idaho), Kirby Sheffield (from Wyoming), and Jody Mills (from South Dakota).
  • The line about using goggles when Dean and Sam were trying to break through the wall was ad libbed.
  • Jody's truck says "Sioux Falls South Dakota Sheriff; Serving Minnehaha County". Sioux Falls is in Minnehaha County, Minnesota, but part of the city apparently extends into Lincoln County.
  • The drive from the bunker in Lebanon, Kansas to Jody's house in Sioux Falls would have taken approximately 6 hours. If Mary was already at Jody's house when Sam tried to call her, it means Jody and Alex had to keep Mary restrained for the rest of that time.
  • Jody sent Alex to stay at a safe house with Sheriff Donna. Interestingly, neither of them was on the BMOLs' kill list, but Claire was. We don't know where Claire was while the events of this episode were happening.
  • The set that was used for Mary's hallucination appears to be the same set that was used in "Pilot" (season 1).
  • The scene from "Dark Side of the Moon" (season 5) where Mary makes Dean a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cuts off the crusts is apparently a happy memory for both Dean and Mary, because Mary chose to hide inside that memory when she was brainwashed.
  • Ironically, Walt was the one who actually shot Dean and Sam in "Dark Side of the Moon", but he survived this episode while Roy died.

  • Dean says "Let's Shawshank this bit**"" when he suggests that they try to dig/ their way out of the bunker. This refers to the 1994 movie "The Shawshank Redemption" about an innocent man who is imprisoned unjustly and eventually digs a tunnel to escape from prisoni.
  • "Dean says "Yipee ki yay, mother..." before firing the grenade launcher. This utterance is from the 1988 action film, "Die Hard", but "Yipee ki yay" was used in cowboy-western themed films and music prior to 1988.
  • Sam says that the name of the Romani spell that can reverse mechanical devices is a "devla"; devla is the Romani term for god.
  • Dean tells Sam that he always thought they would die like "Butch and Sundance", referring to the 1969 western film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" in which two outlaws die in a gunfight with law enforcement. The film is loosely based on events in the lives of Robert LeRoy Parker (Butch Cassidy) and Harry Longabaugh (The Sundance Kid).
  • Before Jody leaves, Alex tells her to "kick it in the ass." Kim Manners, who directed many episodes of Supernatural from season 1 until his death in 2009, used this phrase to motivate the cast and crew. It has been referenced in the show many times to honor Kim's memory, including in "Abandon All Hope" (season 5), "Clip Show" (season 8), and "Inside Man" (season 10).
