  • Why would Sam let Dean drive, knowing he didn't recognize his car keys and was acting strange?
  • Based on Sam's initial reaction to Dean's condition, has Dean had alcoholic blackouts before?
  • How would Dean know to use witch-killing bullets when he was at the bar the first night? Sam (and presumably Dean) didn't know they were hunting a witch until the next day. And if he DID use witch-killing bullets when he shot Gideon (as Sam surmised from the casing they found) it didn't kill the witch right away, so what's up with that?
  • Will the Black Grimoire become an important book of magic later this season? What happened to the Book of the Damned?

  • Dean knows how to read lips.
  • Rowena wanted to study with the Loughlins when she was trying to increase her power and knowledge as a witch.
  • Although the Grand Coven had a hand in running Rowena out of Europe (and they have been looking for her for a long time), in this episode we learn that the British Men of Letters are actually the ones who ran Rowena out of Europe.
  • Rowena reluctantly admits that the Winchesters do what they do for the greater good and because they try to help people. Rowena also seems to regret some of the bad things she's done, and worries whether she will ever find happiness.
  • Dean remembered Sam's name even after he'd forgotten his own. He also trusted Sam when he couldn't tell whether to shoot Sam or the witch.

  • When Dean wakes up in the woods, the rabbit was just supposed to be there. Picking it up and talking to it were ad-libbed by Jensen.
  • This episode takes place in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. When the Winchesters are leaving the morgue, we see that they were in the Carroll County Municipal Building. Eureka Springs is in Carroll County, Arkansas.
  • Dean met Sam at Waldo's Waffles. This appears to be a fictional place.
  • The Winchesters' motel room number was #129.
  • Vincent Gale, who played Boyd Loughlin in this episode also played Evan Hudson (a man who sold his soul to save his wife) in "Crossroad Blues" (season 2) and one of Crowley's demons (who tortures the angel Semandriel) in "Torn and Frayed" (season 8).
  • The name of the accounting firm in this episode was Gilman, Gilbert & Sons Wealth Management.
  • Dean stole an expensive cigar from the accountant's office (twice) but we've never seen Dean smoke cigars.
  • Dean killed all three of the Loughiln witches in this episode, despite not having his memory for most of it.
  • Merle's taxi service picked up Rowena at the end of the episode.
  • The mechanical bull's name was Larry, and Jensen rode him for real!

  • The episode title "Regarding Dean" alludes to a 1991 film "Regarding Henry" about a lawyer who loses his memory.
  • Dean reminds Sam that the "Rat Pack" partied until the day they died. The Rat pack refers to a group of famous entertainers who were very popular in the 1960s: Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford.
  • Dean jokingly tells Sam "Mo' money, mo' problems." This refers to a 1997 rap song by The Notorious B.I.G.
  • Sam refers to the Winchesters' recent imprisonment by the Secret Service (see LOTUS and First Blood) as being tossed into West Guantanamo, referring to the now-notorious U.S. military prison in Guantanamo.Bay, Cuba.
  • Dean tells Sam that if he'd been hexed, he'd be dead, not "like Dory the fish". Dory is a character from the animated film "Finding Nemo" who has frequent memory lapses.
  • The band Bon Jovi was originally formed in New Jersey in 1983. The original members are John Bon Jovi (lead singer), Richie Sambora (guitar), David Bryan (keyboards), Alec Such (bass), and Tico Torres (percussion).
  • Rowena asks Sam if Dean has lost his hair and is "smooth like a Ken doll". The Ken doll was introduced by Mattel toys in the early 1960s as a fictional boyfriend for the already famous Barbie doll.
  • Dean refers to his memory loss as "Memento crap", alluding to the 2000 film about a man who must battle memory loss to find his wife's killer.
  • While Dean and Sam are searching the accountant's office, we see a photograph on the wall of the victim shaking John Kerry's hand. John Kerry is a famous politician who served as a senator for many years, ran for president, and served as Secretary of State.
  • Dean and Sam use fed aliases Agents Moon and Entwistle, referring to members of the British rock band The Who. Keith Moon was the group's drummer, and John Entwistle was the bassist.
  • Dean also used fed alias Agent Springsteen, alluding to singer/guitarist/song writer Bruce Springsteen, often referred to as "The Boss" by fans.
  • Dean says watching the security camera is like watching himself on Netflix. Netflix is an online service that allows subscribers to purchase films and television shows on demand.
  • According to Rowena, the "obliviate" spell wipes the mind clean. This may refer to a similar spell used in the Harry Potter books and films.
  • The grimoire is a book of spells and incantations. The "black grimoire" Rowena alludes to may be a darker (fictional) version of the existing book.
  • HBO stands for "Home box Office" and was one of the first premium movie channels. Cinemax is also a popular premium channel, sometimes jokingly called "skinemax" because of the adult content it often shows.
  • While Sam and Rowena are talking, Dean is watching cartoons on television. "Scooby Doo, Where Are You" was a popular cartoon during the 1970s, (and is apparently still in production today). During the latter part of season 12 and into the summer hellatus before season 13, Supernatural announced that it would be doing a "Scooby Doo" episode during season 13.
  • "Raggedy Ann" was a rag doll initially introduced as a character from a group of children's books by author Johnny Gruelle, during the early 1900s. The rag doll toy Raggedy Ann and her rag doll brother, Raggedy Andy, were initially produced around the same time.
  • There have been references to the Winchesters' grenade launcher throughout season 12. Sam left a note for Dean in this episode so that he wouldn't use it. Will Dean get to use it before season 12 is over?

  • "It's all good lovin' to me"-- by Sleestack (plays while Dean and Sam are at the bar)
  • "Raggedy Ann" - performed by Tirra Dent (while her character is trying to kill Rowena)
  • "Broomstick Cowboy" -- by Bobby Goodsboro (plays during the ending montage as Dean rides the mechanical bull)
