VERY tough question.....but I, too, pick John.

At his core, I think, he had a huge and good heart, was a decent man and simply cracked under the strain of losing Mary. Yes, he failed his sons many times miserably, dragged them around, left them alone, put way too much on Dean from the start etc. BUT he also taught them to be SURVIVORS and how to think on your toes and improvise with very little; and that served them better and kept them learning and evolving MUCH more than anything Mary every did.

Mary's main fault imo isn't even the deal itself (I do understand her desire not to be completely alone in the world - losing both mom and dad in one night) but the fact that she seemingly buried and ignored all worry about what MIGHT happen in 10 years time. THAT I cannot forgive her, ever. First I thought, ok, she locked up her Hunter's life completely to be with John, maybe that's somehow understandable? But we since learned (Asa Fox) that isn't true either.....she DID try to "tie up loose ends"! So, what, the loose end of a possible visit by a demon with unknown intentions isn't worth looking into???

On the OTHER side, though, the question now also is, if she EVER had a chance to actually prevent any of it - her fate, Sam's role in the apocalypse - or if destiny would have always prevailed?

Seeing how the earth ended up WITHOUT Sam and Dean in the AU makes the question valid, if none of it was in anyone's control. Maybe it all had to play out how it did to balance the "other side" (AU) and it's fate?

As you say, this could be discussed forever.

In the end, I think BOTH parents had a hand in making Sam and Dean the impressive, flawed, good-hearted heroes they are, John in the physical realm and Mary by being this illusion of a great mom for most of the boys life.

But John is my pick.

Midseason finale is here and I must say overall I love season 13. The show is shiny and new with fresh characters and Sam and Dean are brothers that cannot be defeated...so far.

Now for Jack...is he going to take the place of Adam? He seems to be good even though his intentions don't always work out...Remember when Cass thought he was doing the "right thing"...the boys kept on loving him even when they were at odds they knew they would get over it by going thru it and then be one big happy family again!

I love how Jack sees Cass and the boys as family and he is learning by example what it means to be good even though you make mistakes vs evil for selfish reasons.

I love how Lucifer means nothing to him...now that is going to piss him off when they meet for the first time. Well that is all for now.

I am enjoying season 13 so far, too. I don't really like Jack yet, but there are a lot of other things to like about this season, so I'm still happy :)

I'm very curious to see how this will all boil over -- especially when a powered-down Lucifer meets his powerful son who doesn't consider him family anymore. Jack seems to want to be good, but he's naive and Lucifer (even weakened) is manipulative and very seductive. Jack could easily be tricked into choosing the wrong side, so this could truly go either way.

I think if they are going to defeat Lucifer they should bring Adam Milligan back(Not just cuz he's hot)because in a way he's a hunter by his blood line so why not have him help out too?Look as long as he comes back and sammy and dean live im cool with it ;)
