Lost and Found
Episode: 13:01
Airdate: October 12, 2017
Directed by: Phil Sgriccia
Written by: Andrew Dabb

Supernatural's historic season 13 gets off to a roaring start with this season premiere. This episode picks up where "All Along The Watchtower" ended, with Castiel dead at Dean's feet, Mary trapped on the other side of a dimensional rip with a furious Lucifer, and Sam meeting Jack, the Nephilim. Dean and Sam have regrettably little time to deal with the loss of Castiel and Mary, as they have to find Jack and protect him from the angels without getting themselves killed.

  • We know from summer hellatus spoilers that Castiel is coming back, but when will that happen?
  • Is Jack inherently good (as Sam seems to believe) or evil (as Dean believes)? Either way, will he eventually turn bad?
  • Now that Jack knows his "father" Castiel is dead, what will he do?
  • Was the drunken angel and angel the whole time, or was she possessed at some point during this episode? If she was an angel the whole time, why did she pretend to be drunk?
  • How will Mary get out of the alternate universe? Will she and Lucifer have to work together to get out, like Benny helped Dean out of purgatory? If so, what will happen when/if Lucifer is free?
  • We've already met a version of Bobby Singer in the alternate universe. Who else will we see again, and how will they be different? Who would you like to see?
  • Jack told Sheriff Christine that his mother "is in heaven", but is she? She did knowingly have the devil's child, after all. Does she still deserve to go to heaven?
  • Did Dean really call Jody, or was that a ploy so he could have time alone to pray?
  • What are the limits of Jack's powers? Can he teleport? Is he really unable to resurrect someone, as the angel Miriam said to Dean? If so, why is that? Shouldn't a being with "nearly infinite" power have the power of resurrection?
  • Jack remembered seeing and killing Dagon, but he also saw Castiel, so why did he think Sam was Castiel? Wouldn't he remember his "father's" face?
  • Did the writers intend to create a parallel between Mary being stuck in the other dimension with Lucifer, and Sam being trapped in the cage with Lucifer at the end of season 5? As Lucifer was falling through the rip in "All Along the Watchtower", he grabbed Mary's jacket and pulled her in, much as Michael and Sam fell into the cage together in "Swan Song" (season 5).
  • Also, Dean seems to assume Mary is dead, much like Sam assumed Dean was dead when he was thrown into purgatory with Dick Roman (Survival of the Fittest, season 7). Were the writers making a comparison there? Mary and Lucifer may have to work together to survive and escape, much like Dean and Benny had to work together to both escape purgatory.
  • Now that Crowley is gone, who will rule hell? Dagon and Ramiel are both dead, but one prince of hell, their brother Asmodeus, is still alive. Will he want the throne?
  • Now that Rowena is gone, what will happen to the Book of the Damned? Then again, is Rowena really dead?

  • So far, we know that an angel blade does not hurt Jack, but a taser can, and so do the voices of angels.
  • We don't know much about Jack's powers, but he can hear angel radio. He also has no fingerprints and likes candy, and he can generate a force field or blast wave to suspend someone in mid air, or propel them across a room.
  • Jack remembers killing Dagon, opening the inter-dimensional rip, and doing other things he did before he was born.
  • Dean would bring Crowley back if he could.
  • When Kelly was pregnant, she told Jack that he wouldn't be safe once he was born, so he came into this world as a teenager so he could help protect himself. Kelly also told Jack that Castiel is his father and would protect him. And Kelly taught Jack to speak English before he was born.
  • Once again, Dean feels abandoned by Chuck/god.

  • Metallica doesn't normally allow their music to be played on television, so having "Nothing Else Matters" play for "The Road So Far" was very unusual.
  • Alexander Calvert (Jack) and Mark Pellegrino (Lucifer) are series regulars for season 13.
  • This is the first season since season 9 that does not feature Mark Sheppard as a series regular. Mark Sheppard first appeared in season 5 "Abandon All Hope". "All Along the Watchtower" (the season 12 finale) was Mark's final appearance on the show as Crowley, and his 70th episode with the series.
  • The name of the fast food seafood restaurant was Pirate Pete's Jolly Treats.
  • The sign on Pirate Pete's door says the restaurant opens at 8:00 am during the week, and 9:00 am on weekends. Jack must have arrived earlier than that, since they were not yet open for the day.
  • When filming the interior Impala scene, the show used equipment we haven't seen previously. The rig involves a truck (holding mounted cameras) driving right next to the Impala, and apparently some skill was required (by Jensen and by the crew) to control both vehicles and align the shots properly.
  • In the jail cell scene when Jack gets stabbed by an angel blade, Jared accidentally calls Alexander "Jake" instead of "Jack".

  • Apparently, "wasted", "Chonged", "lit", "blitzed", "blazed", and "blasted" are all slang terms that mean high or stoned.
  • "Queen Elsa" is a fictional character fro the 2013 Disney animated film, "Frozen".
  • Miriam berates her roommates social skills and comments "Hello? Home school, right?" implying that children who are home schooled have poor social skills.
  • Dean suggests to Sam that they grab "Damien" and find a quiet place to kill him. Damien is a fictional character from the 1976 film "The Omen" (and its sequels). In the film, Lucifer's son is the antichrist, and his name is Damien Thorn.
  • "Barney Fife" was a fictional character from the 1960s -era television series "The Andy Griffith Show". In the show, Barney fife was a small town sheriff.
  • When Dean asks Miriam what the angels want, she says they want "The Golden Ticket", meaning Jack. This refers to a ticket from the 1964 novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" , which the 1971 fantasy film "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" was based on. In the book and film, the owner of a chocolate factory held a lottery; the winner (who ended up with the golden ticket) would be granted full access to the factory and all its chocolate-making secrets.
  • Miriam refers to Jack as "Beiber". Justin Bieber is a musical performer who is popular with younger audiences.
  • Sam uses fed alias "Agent Berry" possibly referring to rock and roll guitar legend Chuck Berry.
