- Mary met John Winchester on March 23, 1972. They were married in Reno, Nevada on August 19, 1975.
- When Castiel crashes back to earth, the billboard he breaks through is an advertisement for "Mystery Spot". The only Mystery Spot Supernatural has referenced previously is in Florida (from the Season 3 episode of the same title), which would have meant Castiel was much further than a few hours away from the bunker in Lebanon, Kansas. In reality, there is a Mystery Spot tourist attraction in Santa Cruz, California, but that would also be much further away from the bunker.
- Apparently, the cell phone Jensen broke with his hands was a real phone -- not a prop phone
- John Winchester knew the words to every Led Zeppelin song
- In reality, it is a violation of the veterinary practice act (in the US) for a veterinarian to perform a medical procedure on a human; it would be considered practicing medicine without a license
- When we see Sam's bandaged foot, the bandage only covers the center of his foot; but the burns started at his heel, so the bandage would not have actually have covered his wounds

- Led Zeppelin is a well-known rock band. They are one of Dean's favorite bands, and apparently one of John's favorites, too.
- "Slaughterhouse Five" was a 1972 comedy-drama movie about a man who was abducted by aliens. Kurt Vonnegut wrote the screenplay. Vonnegut's work is also referenced elsewhere in Supernatural: in season 5 "The Monster at the End of This Book" two of Vonnegut's books are mentioned -- Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five. In season 11 "Don't Call Me Shurley", Metatron refers to Chuck's inserting himself into the Winchesters' story as "Vonnegut performance art", referring to Kilgore Trout -- a character Vonnegut created to insert himself into some of his stories
- "Posh Spice" is a reference to a fictional member of the 1990s era all-girl pop music group "The Spice Girls".
- "Mr. Ketch" may refer to the 17th century British executioner, John Ketch, who was known for his brutality
