Nick finger snap

episode guide - Supernatural Wiki
episode guide - Supernatural Wiki

  • Whose grace did Michael use for his experiments? His own?
  • Why did Dean/Michael switch from experimenting on vampires to werewolves? Perhaps his formula didn't work well on vampires, so he tried it on werewolves instead?
  • Is Nick a victim? Or did he kill his own family? Did his neighbor, Artie, kill Nick's family? Or was the murderer someone (or something) we haven't seen yet?
  • Is Nick's soul still alive inside his vessel? If so, will we ever learn how much damage was done by his long-term possession by Lucifer? Is Lucifer possibly controlling some of Nick's actions now? Might that explain the finger snap with Castiel, and Artie's violent murder?
  • Will Jack's attitude about Dean (that he must die if that's the only way to stop Michael) turn into a problem for Sam and Castiel? Will Sam be forced to choose between Dean and Jack? Can they really trust Jack now?
  • Is Michael really gone, or is he tricking Dean and Sam? If Michael is simply hiding inside Dean's vessel, why? He is powerful enough to kill the hunters any time he wants to. And if Michael did truly leave Dean's vessel, why did he leave? And where did he go?
  • We learned in earlier seasons that being possessed by an archangel normally leaves the vessel damaged. Is it possible that some of Nick's emotional state is due to the trauma of being possessed by Lucifer? If so, what will happen to Dean?

  • Michael's super-monster formula seemed to consist of monster blood mixed with archangel grace
  • Sam and the other hunters were led to Duluth, Minnesota by a tip from Sister Jo in the last episode ("Let the Good Times Roll") and a string of grisly murders
  • Castiel confessed that what happened to Jimmy Novak and his family is his greatest regret
  • According to the lore, archangel grace can replenish within 30 days and 100 years. Castiel advised Jack that because he is half human, it will likely take longer for his grace to replenish
  • Kelly Kline named Jack after her own father
  • The angels refer to their expulsion from heaven at the end of season 8 as "The Great Fall"
  • After Gadreel left Sam's vessel, we learned that an angel leaves behind a small amount of grace after possession. This means that Nick and Dean both still have traces of grace from Lucifer and Michael, respectively.

  • This is the 6th episode of Supernatural directed by Richard Speight, Jr. Speight also directed "Just My Imagination", "Stuck in the Middle with You", "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes", "War of the Worlds", and "Unfinished Business"
  • Artie (Nick's neighbor) said that Nick disappeared right after his family was murdered; but in season 5 we saw Nick still living in the house and being haunted/tortured by the murders
  • Chilton Crane, the actress who played Kelly Kline's mother in this episode, also played a woman possessed by a specter in Southern Comfort (season 8) and the mother of a Croat in "Croatoan" (season 2)
  • Michael Bean, the actor who played Artie in this episode, also played a preacher in season 4 "Good God Y'all"
  • Michael offered Philippe (the werewolf pack leader) and his kind a chance to feed on humanity with impunity if the monster agreed to Michael's terms. Dick Roman offered the Alpha Vampire a very similar deal in season 7, but Roman betrayed the vampires by poisoning all the humans with a toxin that also killed vampires. Will Michael similarly betray his allies this time?

  • Bobby's string of acronyms are "ETA" (estimated time of arrival), "TOD" (time of death), "DOA" (dead on arrival), and "DNA" (deoxyribonucleic acid). "DFA" is actually an acronym, but it can have several meanings, including "direct fluorescent antibody" (a type of diagnostic test). In the Urban Dictionary it means "down for anything", referring to a person who is willing to go along with someone else's suggestions without input of his/her own
  • More than once, Michael has implied that because god is "missing in action", he considers himself the new god. However, his perpetual irreverence for religion is uncharacteristic of angels. For example, he was torturing vampires and werewolves in an abandoned church. And the chalice he was using to collect blood and perform his experiments was the same chalice that a priest would use during holy communion.
  • Sam read about Michael's murders in the Duluth Weekly newspaper -- a fictional publication
