- Jack tells the teens from Lebanon that they have movie night in the bunker every Tuesday and Dean picks the movie. Dean especially likes "The Lost Boys".

- This is the first time Jack has used his angel healing powers to heal the girl he accidentally stabbed. At least the first time he healed someone since he's been alive and not in utero.
- The kohonta monster is created a lot like a wendigo is created; from a starving human who resorted to cannibalism to survive, but the kohonta is cursed before it reaches the point of turning into a wendigo.
- Dean references the historic case of the Donner party who became cannibals to avoid winter starvation.
- Jack says that it's illegal in the Haitian criminal code to turn someone into a zombie. That is true.
- The Sheriff's last name is Romero and Jack is reading a book in the bunker that refers to Haitian laws surrounding zombies; perhaps a direct reference to director George Romero and Night of the Living Dead?

- Sam tells the Sheriff that you can't tell people the truth about monsters because even if they have the knowledge, they'll still die; a reference to the AU hunters dying in the bunker at the hands of Michael.
- The local teens ask Jack if he's some kind of Jedi. Star Wars reference.
- Teen Eliot is watching the Ghostfacers on his phone and is a bit of a fan. This appears to be an old video of them.
- The author of Eliot's Monsters, Myths, and Magic book is Jerry Wanek; Supernatural's set designer.
- When Dean tells Jack that it's his mission, should he choose to accept it, to restock the bunker with groceries, he's referencing the Mission Impossible series.
- Jack compares his use of the angel blade, or how to fight with it, to a Star Wars light saber. He also says his powers are kinda like those of a Jedi.
- Dean tells Jack he wants to make sure his powers are under control so he doesn' t go all "X-Men" on a hunt.
- When the Kohonta monster kind of liquifies at the end, Dean describes the moment as "full on Raiders" like the scene in the first Raiders of the Lost Ark movie where the Nazi villains melt when face to face with the splendor of the opened Ark of the Covenant.
