  • Lucifer says he didn't give Asmodeus shapeshifting abilities, so how did the prince of hell get this skill?
  • When Kelly Kline was pregnant with Jack, she couldn't hold a bible without it bursting into flames, so why can Lucifer (Jack's father) hold a bible?
  • Is Lucifer lying about being able to create more angels and give all the angels back their wings? If he's not lying, will he keep his word? Or will he betray the angels?
  • Why is Donatello behaving so strangely and having outbursts? Is it because Asmodeus is controlling him?
  • Where did Asmodeus get an archangel blade from?
  • How is Gabriel alive? How did he become Asmodeus' prisoner, and how long has he been in captivity? Why would Asmodeus want to keep an archangel imprisoned? How can a being as powerful as an archangel be held prisoner by a demon?

  • In heaven, Anael's job was counting souls as they entered heaven, but she felt irrelevant
  • Angels can replenish stolen grace over time
  • When enough of Anael's grace is removed, she starts to experience human emotions, which she apparently likes. Lucifer also experienced some human emotions, like cold, loneliness, and hunger, and he didn't like them
  • Anael feels liberated by not having her wings
  • If Mr. Ketch is telling the truth, he doesn't want Lucifer and Michael loose in the world any more than the Winchesters do, and he's willing to help the Boys and Castiel try to beat the devil and stop Michael from coming here
  • Asmodeus has firm control of hell. If Lucifer was telling the truth, the angels won't be prepared if hell makes a move against heaven
  • Asmodeus recently acquired an archangel blade
  • Gabriel is alive! What?!

  • Most of this episode takes place in Monroe City, Missouri, where the cupid was killed
  • Supernatural has introduced faith healers before, but they've all been frauds. In "Faith" (season 1), the healings were performed by a reaper; and in "The Born Again Identity" (season 7), Castiel was healing people, but didn't know he was an angel
  • Elgin Hall was the meeting hall where Sister Jo performed her healings, charging a minimum of $300 per healing, but targeting (according to her sign) the "disabled and less fortunate", who were largely unable to afford her services
  • In the meeting house where Sister Jo performs healings, the stage behind her contains references to several elements of Supernatural. For example, there are signs for Sioux Falls, South Dakota (where Bobby Singer lived), and Blackwater Ridge, Colorado (where the episode "Wendigo" [Season 1] took place):

  • Danneel Ackles (who plays Sister Jo) is the wife of Jensen Ackles. Purportedly, when the actress expressed an interest in working on the show, executive producer/director Robert Singer supported the idea, and executive producer/writer Eugenie Ross-Leming created the role of Sister Jo for her
  • The scene when Asmodeus takes the fried chicken from Donatello may have been a nod to the fans; many have joked that Asmodeus reminds them of Colonel Sanders, the long-times spokesperson/mascot for the Kentucky Fried Chicken or "KFC" fast food chain

  • A devil's bargain refers to a very bad deal that requires payment of a terrible price. Such deals are normally born of desperation. In this episode, the devil's bargain may refer to the angels agreeing to let Lucifer rule them in exchange for his agreeing to create more angels and return their wings. It may also refer to the Winchesters and Castiel working with Mr. Ketch, who may betray them if he gets a chance. Or it may refer to Anael, who made a deal with Lucifer so he wouldn't kill her. Perhaps she's not as much on his side as she seems to be
  • Lucifer asks the homeless man if they can get a dinner that is "botulism-light". Botulism is a disease associated with the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is just one of many bacteria that can cause food-borne illness
